Aftermarket Installation Technician / Vehicle Upfitter
Location: NY, NJ, PA (local work) + occasional nationwide travel
Job Type: Full-Time or Contract
Work Type: In-person, field-based
What You’ll Do
- Install and service aftermarket electrical and safety equipment on:
- Emergency vehicles (police, fire, EMS)
- Public transit buses
- Commercial and specialty fleet vehicles
- Work with 12V and 24V electrical systems
- Install lighting, sirens, cameras, sensors, auxiliary power, and control systems
- Perform clean, professional wiring and mounting
- Diagnose electrical issues and complete repairs
- Complete installs at fleet facilities and transit depots
- Follow safety, quality, and compliance standards
- Document work performed accurately
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Experience with aftermarket installs on emergency, commercial, or transit vehicles
- Strong knowledge of 12V / 24V systems
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and installation manuals
- Skilled with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostics
- Attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Valid driver’s license and clean record
- Willingness to travel as needed
Preferred (Not Required):
- Transit fleet experience (Gillig, New Flyer, etc.)
- Police, fire, or EMS upfitting experience
- Familiarity with brands like Whelen, Federal Signal, SoundOff, L3Harris, Hayden AI
- Basic computer skills for documentation and software setup
